Lando Norris Reacts to Shocking New F1 Rule: “Will Max Verstappen Be Penalized?”

Lando Norris has shared his candid thoughts following the FIA’s surprising rule change for the 2025 Formula 1 season, which includes the removal of the bonus point for setting the fastest lap. The change has stirred up significant debate, particularly after a controversial moment involving Daniel Ricciardo at the Singapore Grand Prix, where he set the fastest lap late in the race, depriving Norris of an extra point that ultimately benefited Max Verstappen in the title race.

When asked about the new rule, Norris didn’t hold back: “Honestly, it feels a bit unfair. We all know how valuable that extra point can be, especially in a tight championship fight. But now with the fastest lap bonus gone, are they really going to start penalizing drivers like Max for pushing limits in other ways?”

The British driver hinted at potential consequences for Verstappen, who has been dominating the 2024 season. “Max has been in top form, but these changes might start affecting his strategy. If they’re taking away the fastest lap point, who knows what could come next? Maybe penalties for pushing too hard or taking risks late in the race.”

Norris also questioned whether the decision was truly in the spirit of competition. “It’s always been part of the sport to reward drivers for being fast, even when they’re not in the top-three. This rule change feels like it’s taking something away from the drivers who really push until the last lap.”

The decision comes at a crucial moment as Norris trails Verstappen by 52 points in the championship with just six races remaining. With the new rule set to take effect in 2025, it remains to be seen how it will impact race strategies and whether Verstappen or other top drivers will adjust to the evolving regulations.

Formula 1 fans are now eagerly watching how this decision might influence future races, and Norris’s reaction underscores the uncertainty and frustration among drivers about how the sport is evolving.
