Rory McIlroy’s property portfolio decision on Florida mansion after wife got UK wish

Rory McIlroy has spent the last two years renovating a sprawling estate in Wentworth, Surrey, but is expected to split his time between the UK and his incredible mansion in Jupiter, Florida

Rory McIlroy is set to retain his luxury Florida mansion. That’s despite moving into a lavish property in the UK that has undergone extensive renovations.

The 36-year-old golfer, who clinched the career Grand Slam at the Masters in April, confirmed earlier this year that his Wentworth property was complete after substantial developments. It’s reported that McIlroy purchased the sprawling estate in 2023 and has spent the last two years investing a whopping £9million to breathe new life into it.

Speaking about settling into his new home ahead of the Genesis Scottish Open, McIlroy said: “We came back a few weeks ago and moved into our new home in Wentworth and have been trying to settle in. It’s amazing what two weeks of a bit of detachment can do for you.

“Sitting there being with your own thoughts for a while. Yeah, it’s been nice to have this time to reflect and also to rekindle my excitement and enthusiasm for the rest of the year.”

McIlroy’s home is nestled in the heart of Surrey, in an estate which has been occupied by a number of famous faces and billionaires over the years. Fellow golfers Thomas Bjorn and Ernie Els currently have properties there, as do Kevin Pietersen and Andriy Shevchenko, reports Belfast Live.

Meanwhile, the likes of Prince Andrew, Boris Berezovsky and even the former King of Thailand, Prajadhipok, have all called this exclusive locale home at some point. However, it doesn’t mean that McIlroy is planning to sell his luxurious mansion in Jupiter.

Given the demands of the PGA Tour and the number of US-based events he will participate in, it’s expected that McIlroy will spend time at the home he purchased from Els in 2012. Now believed to be worth a whopping £16.6m, the grand 13,000-square-foot estate is nestled in the ultra-chic Bear’s Club, boasting nine bedrooms and 10 bathrooms, as well as a state-of-the-art gym, a home theatre, a games room and a recording studio.

However, the Floridian paradise isn’t the only property McIlroy has owned over the years. The five-time major champion also purchased a sprawling residence in La Quinta, California, and previously owned a stunning home in County Down.

In addition, his international property portfolio includes a stylish flat in New York, and an incredible apartment in Dubai. It comes as McIlroy and wife Erica Stoll, who was keen for the move to the UK, seem to have overcome their marital issues from last year.

The Northern Irishman stunned the golfing world by filing for divorce last May on the eve of the PGA Championship, only to withdraw the petition a month later. Speaking to the Guardian about the turbulent time, he said: “There have been rumours about my personal life recently, which is unfortunate.

“Responding to each rumour is a fool’s game. Over the past weeks, Erica and I have realised that our best future was as a family together. Thankfully, we have resolved our differences and look forward to a new beginning.”

McIlroy’s attention is now turning to this month’s Ryder Cup following a whirlwind year. The world No. 2 enjoyed early triumph at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-AM in February before securing the prestigious Players Championship the following month.

A career Grand Slam was realised in April as McIlroy defeated Justin Rose in a dramatic play-off at Augusta National to finally claim the elusive Green Jacket alongside his collection of US Open, PGA Championship and Open Championship titles. However, McIlroy has found it difficult to secure victories on the Tour in the months since, with his finest showing after the Masters being a T2 finish at the Scottish Open in July.
