Mariah has been falling apart for weeks now. She told Tessa that she tried to 𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁 somebody, but wouldn’t offer many details. On the September 18 episode of The Young and the Restless, she also tried to come clean to Daniel, but ended up only begging him to be a good friend to Tessa.
On the surface, it seemed like Mariah just felt obliged to turn to Daniel because he’d been spending a lot of time with Mariah’s wife, lately. But what if the real reason is much more sinister?
Tessa and Daniel’s Guitar Lessons
The reason Tessa (Cait Fairbanks) and Daniel have grown so much closer recently is that Daniel recently lost his partner, Heather (Vail Bloom), and Tessa feels she is about to lose her wife, Mariah (Camryn Grimes), at any moment. Mariah told Tessa she is going out of town to a clinic to process the fact that she almost 𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁ed someone. (According to her flashbacks, it was with a pillow in a dark room, like a weird version of the board game, Clue.)
We’ve been led to believe the person Mariah tried to suffocate was whoever the old man Michael Swan was supposed to be playing is. But what if that’s only the beginning?
Mariah’s Past Catches Up With Her
Mariah was raised in a cult run by the evil Ian (Ray Wise), who tried to drug and marry Mariah for her money. He abused and tortured her, and she was so glad when he ended up dead.
Ian “died” after the truth came out about him murdering Heather, Daniel’s long-time love. But what if it wasn’t Ian? What if it was Mariah?
Whatever Happened to Heather Williams?
Hear us out, hear us out! Ian hypnotized Mariah into 𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁ing Heather. And she didn’t remember having done so until after her night of drinking with a Random As the World Turns Star. Maybe something he said reminded her, or something he did.
Or maybe Mariah did try to 𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁 him, which reminded her of having actually done it to Heather? That’s why she can’t tell the truth, but it is also why she gravitates towards Daniel. She feels guilty about having deprived him of the woman he loved. Is she willing to make amends by… sacrificing the woman she loves? To him?
