Jordan Henderson to ‘quadruple Liverpool wages’ with life-changing Saudi Arabia transfer

The deal on the table for Jordan Henderson from Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq will reportedly multiple his Liverpool wages by four times should he opt for the Saudi Arabia switch

Jordan Henderson is set to quadruple his wages if he decides to link up with Steven Gerrard in Saudi Arabia.

Liverpool’s captain has been mulling over his future after former team-mate Gerrard took charge at Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq earlier this month and made him a target.

The 33-year-old is now believed to be leaning towards accepting what would be a life-changing move – with The Athletic claiming he’s in line to earn four times his current salary.

That would be a weekly wage in excess of £700,000. Henderson is expected to make a final decision on whether he wants to stay or go imminently.

Whether Jurgen Klopp will sanction his exit remains to be seen. The Liverpool boss has a stacked list of midfield options following the summer arrivals of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai.

They’ve joined Thiago, Fabinho, Stefan Bajcetic and Curtis Jones, as well as Henderson, who has two years remaining on his contract. Klopp has already lost one senior squad member this summer in James Milner.

But he can’t guarantee a spot in the starting XI for his skipper. They’re set to hold talks in the next 24 hours to clear up where they stand going forward.

Henderson also has to weigh up his England career – which would almost certainly be over if he moves to the Middle East just 12 months out from Euro 2024.

If he gives the green light, talks will be held between Liverpool and Al-Ettifaq, who will need to fund not only Henderson’s wages but also a fee.

The Dammam-based club are not one of the four in their country owned by the bottomless pit that is the Public Investment Fund, but they are looking to bankroll a title charge next season having not won the league since 1987.
