Lionel Messi who has won almost every trophy that was within his reach at both team and personal levels, has bagged two awards at ESPY 2023. Messi is expected to make his debut for Major League Soccer side Inter Miami on July 23 against Mexican side Cruz Azul in the side’s League Cup fixture.

The Excellence in Sports Performance and Achievements Award (ESPY) happens annually is an award that is given to the top athletes across all sports in the world. The ESPYS 2023 was held in the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. Top athletes of the world such as Lebron James, Kyrie Irving, Patrick Maholmes, Tobin Heath and Jamal Murray were in attendance at the fabled award show.

Just like the 2022 FIFA World Cup final, Lionel Messi grabbed a brace at the ESPY’s as the Argentine won the ‘Best Soccer Player’ and the ‘Best Championship Performance” awards for his performance with Argentina that led them to World Cup glory.

Lionel Messi who signed for Inter Miami arrived in the States on Tuesday as rumours float that the unveiling of the former PSG man will happen on July 16 – going by a cryptic post by his new team on Instagram suggested.

Messi’s unveiling presentation is expected to happen at half-time of the Gold Cup final between Mexico and Panama with the Major League being in talks with the Soccer Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF), Fox and Univision over the possibility of airing the presentation of the 5 time Balon D’or winner during half time.

Messi is expected to make his debut for his new club on July 23 against Mexican side Cruz Azul in their sides League Cup fixture over them. The former Barcelona man definitely has his work cut out for him as Miami currently sits last in the Eastern Conference at 15th place with only 5 wins, 3 draws and 13 losses in 21 games played this season.
