The big English Premier League team is ready to rescue Harry Maguire for £50 million after being ᵴtriƥped of the captaincy by Erik Ten Hag

Harry Maguire wants to stay and fight for his place at Man Utd despite interest from West Ham, who are exploring a move for the defender following the £105million departure of Declan Rice to Arsenal.

Hammers boss David Moyes is willing to offer Maguire, 30, a chance of a fresh start elsewhere in the Premier League but the former United captain would need to take a substantial pay cut to fit in with the Hammers‘ wage structure.

United had sounded out West Ham about taking some of their players in exchange for Rice earlier in the window and Maguire’s name was one raised by West Ham, while United also proffered Scott McTominay and Anthony Elanga.

The club, as reported by Mail Sport, are open to offers for up to 13 players this summer as they hope to raise as much as £100m for new signings.

However, Mail Sport understands that United see Maguire as an important part of the squad and will not force the England international out of Old Trafford. Along with the other players potentially up for grabs, United are happy to let them fight for their places.

It is also understood that Maguire is happy at the club and has taken his role as captain very seriously.

Away from the pitch, Maguire continues to make a brilliant impression through his work with the club’s foundation and regularly takes time to watch and support the women’s and youth sides.

While he spent most of the time on the sidelines out injured – and is even have played through the pain barrier by playing with broken ribs are one point – Maguire is confident to play a more prominent role in the upcoming season.

Maguire made just eight Premier League starts last season and slipped down the pecking order under Erik ten Hag. He remains a regular for England under Gareth Southgate and will look to get as much minutes under his belt ahead of next summer’s Euros.

The former Leicester defender has also been putting in the hard yards in extra training sessions this summer at a Portugal camp with Chelsea legend Ricardo Carvalho.

Last season, Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane, Victor Lindelof and even left back Luke Shaw were all typically selected ahead of Maguire in the heart of defence.

It saw Maguire fall out of favour and his captaincy questioned, though Ten Hag has quashed speculation a decision over the next skipper will be decided by his squad.

‘No, I don’t let the dressing room vote,’ he said. ‘It is up to me.’

Maguire was signed by the Red Devils in 2019 for £80million – still the world-record fee for a defender.

The defender took to Twitter to announce that he would no longer be serving as club captain

‘He outlined his reasons to me and whilst I’m personally extremely disappointed, I will continue to give my all every time I wear the shirt.

‘So I wanted to say a massive thank you to the Man Utd fans for all their brilliant support whilst I’ve been wearing the armband.’

Maguire lost his place in the team after Man United’s dismal 4-0 defeat to Brentford last August which resulted in his Portuguese team-mate Fernandes leading out the side.
