Mykhailo Mudryk had Chelsea fans in awe with his “insane” pace against Brighton after he scored his first goal for the club.

The 22-year-old, who joined the Blues in an £88.5million transfer from Shakhtar Donetsk in January, was the star of the show in the Premier League Summer Series clash on Saturday (July 22).

He came on at half-time, when the score was 1-1 after Christopher Nkunku had cancelled out Danny Welbeck’s opener, and put his side in front with a volley from outside the box after a pair of one-twos with Nicolas Jackson.

Chelsea went on to win 4-3, with Conor Gallagher and Jackson also getting on the scoresheet before Joao Pedro and Deniz Undav reduced the deficit.

However, Mudryk was being talked about most after he left a Brighton defender for dust in the dying embers of the game.

He played a long touch which looked destined to go out for a goal kick, but rapidly caught up with it and managed to put a cross into the box.

One fan hailed: “Insane pace.” A second echoed: “That’s insane pace.” And a third exclaimed: “This looks like something out of a video game, what!”

“No one will believe this if it wasn’t caught on camera,” joked a fourth, while a fifth commented: “This was just ridiculous! This guy might be the fastest player in the world you know!”

“Mudryk is faster than [Kylian] Mbappe, I’m certain of this,” added a sixth, which is a sentiment shared by his team-mate Wesley Fofana who has played against both wingers.

Reacting to their FIFA statistics in a video on Chelsea’s YouTube channel earlier this year, Mudryk argued his 94 pace should in fact be 99. “I am not quick enough. I want 99,” he said.

Fofana agreed, telling the camera: “He is so quick.” And when his fellow Frenchman Benoit Badiashile asked if Mbappe was quicker, he added: “No chance. It’s finished.”
