Bernardo Silva signed a new contract running until July 2026 this summer.
However – according to Mundo Deportivo – this deal includes a £50m release clause, which is far below what Manchester City value the Portugal international at.
The Spanish news outlet explain that Manchester City’s No.20 is keeping himself open to joining Barcelona next summer, and the £50m clause represents a sum Xavi’s side could afford.
Interestingly, if Silva did leave Manchester this summer, it is said that Pep Guardiola was going to make a move for Olmo – who RB Leipzig signed from Dinamo Zagreb for £21m in January 2020.
The Spain international enjoyed a strong 2022/23 campaign with RB Leipzig, scoring five goals while also providing 11 assists in 31 appearances as the German side won the DFB-Pokal.
Olmo has continued his excellent form with five goals and one assist in just four appearances so far this term.
Pep Guardiola has already praised Manchester City target Dani Olmo
A move for Olmo never happened this summer, although we would be very surprised if Guardiola didn’t make a swoop for the 25-year-old next year based on his previous comments about the Terrassa-𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧 forward.
Ahead of Manchester City’s clash against RB Leipzig in the UEFA Champions League back in December 2021, the 52-year-old heaped praise on his fellow Spaniard.
As quoted by the Manchester Evening News, Guardiola said: “He is a Leipzig player. If we are interested, I’m sure City will contact Leipzig. Saying that he is a fantastic, fantastic player. I’m happy he had the courage to leave Barcelona to develop his s𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁s and then arrive at Leipzig.”
Clearly, Guardiola holds a lot of admiration for Olmo, so it would not be a surprise to see the RB Leipzig No.7 at the Etihad Stadium in the near future.
