It’s been on and off the market a few times in recent years.
Now Robert Downey Jr. has reportedly bought the historic Edward DeRose Windmill Cottage in East Hampton, according to Behind The Hedges on Thursday.
The home, built in 1885, came on to the market in 2014 for $13.5 million but the price has dropped in that time. It was last listed for $11.9 million.
Pricey new digs: Robert Downey Jr. has reportedly bought the historic Edward DeRose Windmill Cottage in East Hampton, New York, for $11.9 million
Adding to his portfolio: It’s the latest property purchase for the 52-year-old and his producer wife Susan, 43, pictured at an event in Los Angeles on December 7
The cottage was never a working windmill despite its name. It’s a copy of an original windmill in East Hampton and today that part of the property houses a library and an office.
Listed with Peter Turino of Brown Harris Stevens, it boasts 8,500-square-feet of living space between the main house, guest house and studio.
That includes seven bedrooms, six bathrooms, and five half-bathrooms plus a stunning gourmet kitchen.
Outside, there’s a 50ft swimming pool, tennis court, gardens and potting shed in the extensive four-acre grounds.

Robert is known for his love of cars, so the three-car garage likely won’t be big enough to house his collection.
Meanwhile, the 52-year-old is said to have an extensive property portfolio in SoCal.
In September 2009 the Iron Man star bought a seven-acre ocean view compound in Malibu with equestrian facilities for $13.4 million.

Grand dining: Where Robert and Susan can entertain guests
In 2011 he put down $1.92 million for a home in Manhattan Beach. In 2012 he snapped up a $3.6 million property in Rustic Canyon between Pacific Palisades and Santa Monica.
The same year he reportedly bought a modern, live-work residence in Venice’s Abbot Kinney neighborhood for $5.6 million and a smaller, three-story, live-work townhouse in the same area for $3 million in 2013.
In 2014 Robert is said to have added a $2.5 million ranch-style house in the Pacific Palisades. Whether the star still has all the properties is a moot point.
