A month after unveiling his newly-shaved head at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, two-time Oscar nominee Robert Downey Jr. was finally pictured for the first time hard at work on the LA set of The Sympathizer.

On Monday, the 57-year-old native New Yorker was wearing a red wig over his bald head for the espionage thriller – which he described as ‘already a transformative, literally playing five different roles, experience for me.’

Each of Robert’s supporting antagonistic characters ‘represent a different arm of the American establishment’ – according to Deadline.

Downey Jr. is executive producing and starring in Park Chan-wook and Don McKellar’s seven-episode adaptation of Viet Thanh Nguyen’s Pulitzer Prize-winning 2015 debut novel for HBO.

Cowboy Bebop star Hoa Xuande plays the main character – a half-French, half-Vietnamese communist spy during the final days of the Vietnam War and his resulting exile in the United States.

The Sympathizer will also feature Sandra Oh, Kieu Chinh, Nguyen Cao Ky Duyen, Hoa Xuande, Fred Nguyen Khan, Toan Le, Vy Le, and Alan Trong.

On October 29, the Sr. producer-star enlisted his 10-year-old son Exton Elias to shave his head on October 29 so he didn’t ‘have to wear a bald cap’ for the movie.

Robert is also father to eight-year-old daughter Avri Roel from his 17-year marriage to Team Downey producing partner Susan Levin and 29-year-old son Indio from his 12-year marriage to Deborah Falconer, which ended in 2004.

Downey Jr. credits his 49-year-old wife with helping him overcome his drug and alcohol habits since July 2003 after meeting on the set of Gothika.
