Unstoppable: Man United Forward Continues Scoring Spree with National Squad, fans send messages to Erik Ten Hag

Scott McTominay has continued his impressive form for Scotland as he netted from outside the box during their 2-2 draw against Georgia.

Scott McTominay’s goal takes him to seven in the UEFA European Championship qualifiers which is an extraordinary feat for the Manchester United midfielder.

Erik ten Hag has recently brought the 26-year-old midfielder back into the fold, although his performance against Luton Town was less convincing.

However, for Scotland, McTominay is one of the best players they have and his deployment as a more advanced midfielder for Steve Clarke’s side is working a treat.

McTominay stars for Scotland

Only Belgium’s Romelu Lukaku (10) and Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo (9) have scored more goals so far in Euro 2024 qualifying, it has truly been a remarkable run for the midfielder.

The draw in Georgia keeps Scotland second in their qualifying group but they have already achieved qualification for the finals next summer.

In his advanced midfield position, McTominay completed 98 per cent of his 43 attempted passes. As well as this, he completed 100 per cent of his dribbles and won 66 per cent of his ground duels, it was a great performance from the Scot.

Kenny McLean set up the United midfielder near the edge of the box and the shot snuck through the legs of a defender to flummox the goalkeeper, it was a scruffy finish but a goal nonetheless. When your luck is in, your luck is in.

McTominay could play new position for United

One concern for Erik ten Hag is that McTominay looks to be struggling to affect games as well as he does for Scotland. However, the Dutchman’s positioning of the midfielder for his team is not helping his cause.

He is a fighter but just isn’t cutting the mustard at the moment.

The Scottish midfielder is, at times, being deployed as the deepest player in the engine room which is just not how to get the best out of McTominay.

Perhaps lining up as the second number 10 alongside Bruno Fernandes could be the way to get the best out of the 26-year-old. His energy and bite in midfield, especially further up the pitch, could be exactly what the Red Devils need.
