LeBron James Reveals Shocking Reason for Bronny James’ Omission from Lakers’ California Classic Game Against Warriors

Bronny James was a late scratch from the Los Angeles Lakers’ second California Classic game on Sunday due to swelling in his left knee. This decision came a day after Bronny’s NBA Summer League debut, where he scored four points.

Lakers Summer League coach Dane Johnson provided limited details after the team’s 92-68 loss to the Golden State Warriors, explaining, “We’re taking it day-by-day.”

“Just being precautionary about it,” Johnson said. “The hope is (and) the plan is for him to play the next game here. But that’s all the information we have so far.”

Bronny, the son of Lakers superstar LeBron James, was seen in uniform sitting at the end of the bench with a white wrap covering his left leg. He occasionally picked at the wrap during the game.

LeBron James, currently in Las Vegas preparing with Team USA for the upcoming Olympics in Paris, revealed the surprising reason for his son’s absence. “It was a tough call, but we have to prioritize Bronny’s health,” LeBron stated. “He felt some discomfort, and we didn’t want to risk it. It’s all about the long-term.”

During Saturday night’s game against the Sacramento Kings, Bronny struggled, going 2-for-9 from the field, missing all three of his 3-point attempts, and grabbing two rebounds in 22 minutes. Fans at Chase Center showed their support, chanting, “We want Bronny! We want Bronny!” halfway through the fourth quarter against the Warriors.

Golden State, led by Ethan Thompson’s 22 points, dominated the Lakers, outrebounding them 55-48, boasting a 50-28 points-in-the-paint advantage, and holding them to just 25% shooting (21-of-84).

Bronny was drafted by the Lakers with the 55th overall pick after a season at the University of Southern California. The Lakers, now with a 0-2 record, are set to play Miami on Wednesday in their final California Classic game before participating in the Las Vegas Summer League beginning Friday.

Coach Johnson emphasized that Bronny’s availability for the game against the Heat will depend on medical professionals. “Our trainers deal with all of that. They just give me updates,” Johnson said. “So, hopefully, you guys can have information on that later.”

LeBron James added, “Bronny is passionate about the game, and he wants to be out there, but we need to be smart about this. It’s a long journey, and we’re just getting started.”
