Phil Mickelson Follows Bryson Dechambeau’s Footsteps After Hurtful Open Championship Dejection

Has Bryson DeChambeau’s magic brushed off on Phil Mickelson? It seems so that the 2-time U.S. Open winner has practically inspired Lefty to play golf for content as well. DeChambeau, who enjoys over a thousand subscribers on YouTube, has done several golf videos, whether he is breaking fifty with other golf influencers or showing a day on the course. The 30-year-old knows how to keep his audience entertained.

Joining him will be Mickelson as he will be featured in a new Grant Hovrat video. Previously, the golf influencer has collaborated with DeChambeau on various occasions, but this time it will be against Lefty. Hovrat shared a tease picture of the 6-time major winner on his Instagram as the two stared each other out.

The announcement comes just when Mickelson was not listed on the Open Championship’s press conference list despite him being a former champion. Nonetheless, it surely distracts the fans and Lefty from the R&A’s ditch. The latest video with Mickelson will also be out on Monday, July 15th, the same day the presser for The Open will commence. What might be the video about? Just three days ago, Hovrat posted a breaking 50 video with John Daly Jr. With the 45-time LPGA Tour winner, Hovrat might have chosen to do the same or to go head-to-head with him. Regardless, the video would surely be entertaining, as Mickelson rarely takes part in YouTube golf.

The last time it was with DeChambeau, as HyFlyers GC teammate, Cameron Tringale joined the 53-year-old, and they challenged DeChambeau and Anirban Lahiri for a 9-hole match. Surprisingly, the Hyflyers won the match 2 up, and the fans loved to see the casual side of Lefty. And they might see him on YouTube more in the coming years as the 6-time major winner has teased his retirement plan.

Phil Mickelson may turn to YouTube after hitting retirement

In an exclusive interview with Bloomberg, Phil Mickelson revealed that at the age of 53, after massing 57 titles in his career, he might be at the end of his career. He said, “My career, you know, if I’m being truthful it’s toward its end.” Lefty explained that he now wanted to help others enjoy golf and find the same fulfillment as he did in his decades-long career.

And just is he going to do that? By becoming a golf vlogger on probably YouTube. A golf writer Chris McKee posted on X that after his retirement, Mickelson might become an analyst for Golf Channel or CBS, etc and he might be one of the successful ones. But Lefty had other plans so he shut down that idea but thanked the writer.

The LIV Golf pro rather elaborated on his concept of starting a YouTube channel and the kind of videos he would post. Mickelson said, “I’m going to shoot some Pros vs Schmos 9-hole matches. I’ll share insights throughout as well as talk a little smack. It won’t be the highest quality video but it’ll be fun for me to do and fun to watch I think too.” It surely would be entertaining for golf fans to watch the legendary pro enjoy his retirement with fun and creativity.

Although the timeline of Mickelson’s retirement is not set, the plan is and his fans would not be disheartened whenever he retires as he would always be present just a screen away.
