Wicked’s two leading ladies Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo have been pictured together on set of the Broadway adaptation for the first time.

The singer, 29, and the musical theatre star, 36, have been busy filming scenes across the UK separately over the past two months.

But Glinda The Good Witch and Elphaba reunited earlier this week as the production of the two-part adaptation of Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel continues.

The actresses hugged as they posed for a photo in full character.

Ariana looked breathtaking as she transformed into Glinda. Her darker locks have been dyed blonde for the role.

She wore a soft pink satin coat and a glamorous make-up look, which was a stark contrast to Cynthia’s black school outfit and green face paint.

Cythia takes on the much-loved role of Elphaba (later known as the Wicked Witch Of The West) after she gained recognition for starring in the Broadway revival of The Color Purple from 2015 to 2017.

The pair filmed school scenes as they were pictured with rackets in hand.

Wicked is based on Maguire’s 1995 novel of the same name and was first performed on Broadway in 2003 before opening at the Apollo Theatre in London three years later.

In the play, Elphaba arrives at Shiz University and becomes roommates with Glinda but their relationship becomes fraught years later when they meet the Wizard of Oz.

Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holzman, who co-wrote the music and lyrics to the Broadway show, have adapted the screenplay while Jon M Chu is directing.

Michelle Yeoh and Jeff Goldblum will also feature in the movie, which is set for release late next year.

Jonathan Bailey appears as Fiyero Tigelaar, who gets engaged to Glinda in the Wicked play and film, even though his true love for Elphaba pulls him away from her.

Later, he becomes the character known as the Scarecrow, who was played by Ray Bolger in Judy Garland–starring film.

The thespian is a renowned stage star known both for contemporary plays and for roles in Othello and King Lear.

He rose to prominence with his role in the popular crime drama Broadchurch, and his most recent major role was as Anthony, the 9th Viscount Bridgerton on the hit Netflix period romance of the same name.

Saturday Night Live star Bowen Yang, Adam James, Keala Settle and Bronwyn James are also featured in the cast.

Last month, Goldblum let it slip that he had been cast in the film while appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

‘I was just on the set of Wicked. I’m not supposed to talk about that. But it’s been out and about,’ he said. ‘You should see our witches, Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, very good.’

Fans of the hit Broadway musical will have to wait to see the full story told via film, as Wicked is being split up into two parts.

The first film is currently set for a November 27, 2024, release in theaters, with the second chapter arriving in December of the following year.
