Curtis Jones is another Liverpool star who has been involved in international football in recent days.

Jones made his debut for England against Greece. The 23-year-old midfielder scored.

The youngster kept his place in the England starting lineup against the Republic of Ireland at Wembley Stadium in London on Sunday.

Jones was one of the two holding midfielders in a 4-2-3-1 formation. He came off in the 79th minute, and the national media in England was hugely impressed with how he played.

Rating Jones’s performance 7 out of 10, The Express noted: “One of the standouts from England’s November international break, Curtis Jones has certainly sent Tuchel a message with his performances against both Greece and Ireland.

“So often does the Liverpool man do the simple things right, it’s easy for him to go overlooked when compared to the other big names in the side.

“But given England’s travails in midfield at the summer’s European Championship, Jones could find plenty of success in the team going forward.”

Metro gave Jones 6 out of 10 and wrote: “Always industrious and neat, but couldn’t really have much influence or impact on the game. Didn’t have much to do defensively and largely just had to give it to the more creative players.”

The London Evening Standard rated Jones 7 out of 10 and noted: “Has played so well over these two games – his first two for his country. Kept things ticking over in midfield.”

Jones is fast developing into a very good all-round midfielder, both for Liverpool and for England.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has already been hugely impressed with Jones, and his latest performance for England will certainly have caught the attention of incoming Three Lions boss Thomas Tuchel.

Against the Republic of Ireland on Sunday evening, Jones took one shot which was not on target, had a pass accuracy of 96%, took 80 touches, made one clearance, and put in one cross.
