On Monday night, former Maple Leafs captain John Tavares joined Wayne Gretzky and some other NHL legends as he became the fifth player in league history to score 200 goals with two different franchises.

The accomplishment came in a tough 5-2 loss for Toronto at the hands of the Winnipeg Jets, where Tavares logged the only two goals for the Maple Leafs.

He now finds himself in elite company alongside some of the greatest NHL players of all time:

We’re kicking this list off with The Great One himself, Wayne Gretzky, who logged a record 894 goals, including 583 with the Edmonton Oilers and 246 career goals with the LA Kings. Gretzky spent the first nine seasons of his NHL career with Edmonton, leading the league in goals five times between the 1981-82 and 1986-87 seasons.

After the 1987-88 season, he joined the LA Kings, where he spent almost full eight seasons before landing with the St. Louis Blues to wrap up the 1995-96 season.

Before joining the Toronto Maple Leafs at the start of the 2018-19 season, John Tavares had already made a name for himself with the New York Islanders. Over nine years with the Islanders, Tavares logged 272 goals.

ince joining the Maple Leafs, Tavares has logged 201 goals with the franchise following Monday’s two-goal outing.

Another Toronto legend, Lanny McDonald logged 500 goals throughout his career. Over seven seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs, McDonald logged 219 goals despite only scoring 14 goals in his first season with the franchise.

After a brief stop in Colorado to play for the Rockies (NHL), McDonald joined the Calgary Flames for the final stretch of his career, logging another 215 goals to cement his place in NHL history.

Another Hall of Famer who needs no introduction, Mark Messier’s career is the kind of career that Hollywood movies are made about. His first stop in the NHL saw him join forces with Wayne Gretzky, a player he was familiar with going back to his U18 days.

Over his 12-year career with the Edmonton Oilers, Messier logged 392 goals before joining the New York Rangers from 1991-1997. After a three-season stop with the Vancouver Canucks, Messier returned to New York, where he wrapped up his career with four seasons in NY, logging 250 goals between his two stints with the Rangers.

#5: Keith Tkachuk

The father of Matthew and Brady Tkachuk, Keith Tkachuk logged 323 career goals with the Winnipeg Jets (who relocated to Phoenix) as well as 208 with the St. Louis Blues. Tkachuk’s career with the Jets saw him go through the relocation process, however, it didn’t take away from his on-ice play.

After joining the St. Louis Blues, Tkachuk kept the momentum going in the second half of his career, logging another 208 goals in nine years with the team to join Wayne Gretzky and other NHL legends as one of the only players to log 200+ goals with two different teams.
