Rick Tocchet reflects on hard-working loss in Canucks’ defeat to Flames

The Calgary Flames beat the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday. Connor Zary gave Calgary the lead in the first period, scoring after a pass from Yegor Sharangovich.

In the third period, Brock Boeser tied the game with a power-play goal for the Canucks. However, Nazem Kadri put the Flames ahead, scoring from the slot after a pass from Jonathan Huberdeau. Huberdeau added an empty-net goal to make it 3-1 as Calgary won for the third time in its last four games, while Vancouver has lost five of six.

Vancouver coach Rick Tocchet said that it was a hard-working game with a lot of emotion. He noted that many players worked hard.

“It was a hard-working game. A lot of emotion. Guys stuck together,” Tocchet said (via NHL.com). “A couple self-inflicted goals that are preventable, but for the most part I thought the guys worked hard. A lot of guys gave effort tonight.”

Zary, playing in his 100th NHL game, was proud of his achievement.

“I think it’s special every game you get to play in the NHL and to play 100 games after playing so long in the American league and then be able to come up here and kind of make my mark and get into game No. 100 is pretty cool,” Zary said.

Kadri stepped up in the third period to help his team win.
