Get to Know the Children of The Country Legend, George Jones

George Jones' 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥ren honoring his legacy, showcasing their unique journeys as part of country music royalty.

George Jones, one of the most iconic voices in country music, left a legacy in his timeless songs and his family. As a father to four 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥ren, his personal life was marked by love, challenges, and moments of reconciliation. Despite his struggles with addiction and the demands of fame, Jones’ role as a father added depth to his story.

Susan, Bryan, and Jeffrey Chose Paths Outside the Spotlight

George Jones’ journey as a father began with his first marriage to Dorothy Bonvillion in 1950. The couple welcomed their daughter, Susan, before divorcing soon after her 𝐛𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐡. Susan chose a quiet life, away from her father’s fame, and built a close-knit family with her husband, Harmon Smith. Together, they raised two 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥ren, Jennifer and Michael, and became proud grandparents to twins Laura and Jason.

Living near her father allowed Susan and her family to stay connected. George often expressed his pride in Susan, saying in a 1992 interview, “The kids come over and see us all the time.” Even after his passing, Susan’s family continued to honor his legacy. A 2017 post on George’s official Facebook page shared a photo of Susan with her family, captioned with, “Susan, your daddy would be so proud of his great-grand𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥ren!”

George’s second marriage to Shirley Ann Corley in 1954 brought two sons into his life: Bryan and Jeffrey. While neither followed in their father’s musical footsteps, they forged successful careers of their own. Bryan became an auto parts salesman in Huntsville, Texas, while Jeffrey owns a flooring business in Vidor, Texas. Though they lived outside the world of music, their connection to George Jones influenced their lives unexpectedly.

In 1995, Bryan and Jeffrey were involved in a legal dispute with their father over royalties tied to their late mother’s divorce settlement. The conflict strained their relationship, and George later regretted the time he spent away from his 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥ren. “That’s one of the things I really missed out on in life,” he admitted. “On the road so much, you don’t get to know them.”

Despite these struggles, Bryan later reflected on his father’s legacy with understanding. “George Jones was sent here to do country music, and he knew it,” he said, acknowledging the demands of his father’s career. Over time, the family found peace. Bryan and Jeffrey joined fans at a tribute event in Southeast Texas to honor their father after his passing.

Georgette Jones Embraced the Family’s Musical Legacy

The youngest of George Jones’ 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥ren, Tamala Georgette Jones, was 𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧 in 1970 during his marriage to country superstar Tammy Wynette. As the only 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥 of this legendary duo, Georgette grew up surrounded by music royalty. However, her 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥hood was far from idyllic. Her parents’ turbulent relationship ended when she was just four, leaving her to navigate the challenges of fame and family discord.

Even before Georgette could walk, her future in music seemed set. When she was 𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧, famed record producer Billy Sherrill sent Tammy a bouquet of roses and a signed recording contract for her new𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧 daughter. Though Georgette performed with her parents as a 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥, she initially pursued a different path, working as a registered nurse for 17 years and raising her 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥ren away from the limelight.

Eventually, Georgette embraced her musical roots, carving out her career as a country singer-songwriter. Her voice, often compared to her mother’s, carries the same heartfelt quality that defined Tammy Wynette’s music. She admitted to her initial fears of being compared to her parents. Still, she found confidence as she matured, choosing to honor their legacy through her work.

In 2011, Georgette released The Three of Us: Growing Up Tammy and George. This memoir provided an intimate look at her family life. The book recounts her parents’ highs and lows, including Tammy’s struggles with addiction and the eventual reconciliation between Georgette and her father. One of their most touching moments came when they recorded “You, Me and Time,” a song Georgette wrote as a tribute to him.

Today, Georgette is active in her music career, performing regularly and connecting with fans through her social media platforms. She continues to share her family’s story and celebrate the legacy of two of country music’s most iconic figures.

A Father’s Legacy Lives On in His Children

George Jones’ legacy extends beyond his legendary music. His 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥ren, through their own lives, reflect the complexities of growing up with a larger-than-life figure as a father. Susan’s dedication to her family, Bryan and Jeffrey’s journey to understanding their father’s world, and Georgette’s decision to carry on the family’s musical tradition tell a unique part of his story.

Despite his struggles and long absences, George Jones’ 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥ren remember him as a loving father who did his best under difficult circumstances. His influence lives on not just in country music but in the lives of those who knew him best, proving that a legacy is more than what’s left behind—it’s the impact felt by those who carry it forward.
