Max Verstappen Reacts to Potential 2025 F1 Race Ban: “This Is Ridiculous!”

Reigning Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen has hit back at speculation that he could face a race ban in the 2025 season, branding the situation as “ridiculous” and questioning the FIA’s penalty points system.

With eight penalty points already on his super license, Verstappen is just four points away from an automatic race ban. Given that these points do not expire until the end of June 2025, the Dutch driver will have to tread carefully in the opening rounds of the season to avoid suspension.

Speaking to the media after hearing the discussions surrounding his situation, Verstappen did not hold back in his criticism of the system. “This is ridiculous! I race hard, and suddenly I’m being told I could be banned for doing what I’ve always done. If I deserve a penalty for something serious, fine, but this? It’s just limiting what we can do on track. It makes no sense.”

The Red Bull star has built a reputation for his aggressive yet calculated driving style, but he now finds himself under intense scrutiny. The FIA’s stewards have been stricter than ever, issuing penalty points for various infractions, including track limits violations and on-track incidents.

While some believe that Verstappen’s racing approach will be unaffected, others speculate that rivals might use his precarious position to their advantage. Former drivers and analysts have suggested that competitors could provoke Verstappen into making errors that would lead to additional penalties.

Verstappen, however, remains defiant. “I’m not changing how I race because of this. If anything, I just need to be more aware of what’s happening around me. I know the rules, and I’ll do what I need to do. But don’t expect me to suddenly drive like I’m scared.”

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner also defended Verstappen, arguing that the system needs reviewing. “Max is a racer. He fights hard but fair. The idea that he could be banned due to a few incidents, many of which were debatable, is something we need to discuss with the FIA. The rules should ensure fair racing, not penalize competitiveness.”

As the 2025 season approaches, all eyes will be on Verstappen to see how he navigates this situation. Will he maintain his aggressive edge, or will the looming threat of a ban force a change in his approach? One thing is certain: Verstappen won’t back down without a fight.
