At the heart of the show was Fred Sanford, portrayed by the legendary Red Fox, who brought a distinct wit to the role at the age of 49. Fox, a pioneer in stand-up comedy, passed away in 1991 at 68, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire comedians today. Lamont Sanford, his level-headed son, was played by Demond Wilson, who was 25 when he first appeared. Now 77, Wilson has transitioned to a career as an author and minister.

The feisty Aunt Esther, known for her sharp comebacks, was brought to life by LaWanda Page, who joined the cast at 52 and passed away in 2002. Her contributions to comedy and pop culture are fondly remembered.
