The Likely Lads (1964) Cast THEN AND NOW 2025, Who Else Survives After 61 Years?

The Likely Lads, a classic British sitcom that aired in 1964, holds a cherished place in television history, capturing the essence of 1960s Britain through the camaraderie of its main characters, Terry and Bob. As we reflect on the show over six decades later, the journeys of its cast reveal a mix of triumphs, ongoing contributions, and poignant losses.

James Bolam, who portrayed the witty and rebellious Terry Collier, was 𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧 on June 16, 1935, in Sunderland. At age 29, he won hearts with his portrayal of a working-class man striving for more. After starring in acclaimed shows like “When the Boat Comes In” and “New Tricks,” Bolam, now 89, remains a respected figure in the industry, though he has retired from acting.

Rodney Bewes, who played Bob Ferris, was 𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧 on November 27, 1937, in Bingley. His character’s ambition and loyalty made him a fan favorite during the show’s run. Despite a successful career in television and theater, Bewes passed away on November 21, 2017, at 79, leaving behind a legacy of British comedy.

Among the supporting cast, Michael Sheard, 𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧 on June 18, 1938, had a memorable role as Nesbitt. He later became known for portraying authoritative figures, including Admiral Ozzel in “Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back.” Sheard sadly passed away from cancer in 2005 at age 67.

George Layton, 𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧 March 2, 1943, in Bradford, played a minor role but found success as an actor and writer, remaining active in the industry at 83. Wendy Richard, who portrayed Lynn, became a household name for her roles in “EastEnders” and “Are You Being Served,” but passed away from breast cancer in 2009 at 65.

The show also featured other notable talents like Susan Jameson, Barry Stanton, and Wendy Richard, all of whom have left indelible marks on British television. As of 2025, while some cast members have passed, many others continue to contribute to the rich tapestry of British entertainment, reminding audiences of the nostalgia and charm that “The Likely Lads” brought to the small screen.
