R&B singer Angie Stone tragically passed away in a car accident early Saturday morning at the age of 63. According to her management company, Stone was involved in a collision around 4:00 a.m. while driving from Alabama to Atlanta. Walter Milsap III, her long-time manager, confirmed that the vehicle she was traveling in flipped over and was subsequently struck by a big rig.

The Alabama Highway Patrol reported that the accident occurred approximately five miles south of Montgomery city limits. The 2021 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van rolled over on Interstate 65 before being hit by a 2021 Freightliner truck driven by a 33-year-old man from Texas. While everyone else in the cargo van survived, Stone was pronounced dead at the scene.

Stone’s 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥ren, Diamond and Michael Archer, expressed their heartache in a statement, sharing that they are still grappling with the news. Milsap, also devastated by the loss, highlighted the shocking nature of the tragedy, stating, “Never in a million years did we expect to get this horrible news.”

Stone was scheduled to perform at the halftime show of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) men’s championship basketball game on the same day of her death. In honor of her memory, CIAA chaplain Pastor Jerome Barber called for a moment of silence during the game. CIAA Commissioner Jacqie McWilliams Parker remarked on Stone’s talent and impact, saying she inspired many with her music.

Born in Columbia, South Carolina, Angie Stone rose to fame in the 1970s as a member of the pioneering female rap group The Sequence and later as a solo artist known for hits like “Wish I Didn’t Miss You” and “No More Rain (In This Cloud).” Her contributions to the music industry were recognized with numerous accolades, and she was celebrated not only for her musical talent but also for her acting roles.
