Ladies and gentlemen, Jaron Ennis is back to his very best! I was critical of his last performance against Chukhadzhian and thought he was in desperate need of a move in weight class (as did Boots, initially) so I must say this improvement was particularly impressive to see. He started fast and sharp, landing combinations early and taking Stanionis’ educated jab away from him – establishing his offensive rhythm whilst making sure Stanionis never got started.

Bar the odd moment where Ennis would hold his right hand too low (allowing Stanionis to build off the jab and land the left hook), Boots was in complete control – landing both at volume and at will with multiple well-placed shots. Boots landed the uppercut perfectly on several occasions to take advantage of Stanioni’s crouched stance and tendency to shoot the right hand to the body… before battering his fellow champion to the body with several left hooks to drop Stanionis and eventually force his Lithuanian counterpart to call it quits!
