Nearly two decades after the final episode aired, Friends: The Movie has reentered the pop culture conversation as speculation and fan theories about a big-screen reunion swirl online. Though no announcement has been made, a series of viral social media posts, alleged studio leaks, and resurfaced cast interviews have reignited hope among fans that the beloved six-some might reunite for one last cup of coffee — on the big screen.
The buzz started when a production sheet titled “Untitled Manhattan Project” was anonymously leaked on a Reddit thread, listing familiar names under “preliminary casting.” While it didn’t directly reference Friends, fans were quick to notice that the character names “R. Geller,” “M. Bing,” and “P. Buffay” were mentioned in several breakdowns, sparking speculation that this was a disguised working title for a full-length reunion film.
Adding to the fuel, HBO’s streaming service has reportedly been gauging interest in scripted revivals following the success of their unscripted Friends: The Reunion special in 2021. Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, and Matt LeBlanc have all previously said they’d consider a return “under the right circumstances,” while David Schwimmer recently told a podcast that “nothing’s off the table anymore.”
