Rory McIlroy has incredible lead in race for Ryder Cup after Masters win as top six Europe rankings revealed

Scroll down to see the current top 12 European players

RORY McILROY’S victory at the Masters has given him a stunning lead in the race for a spot in the Ryder Cup.

The Northern Irishman is set to compete once again for Team Europe as they look to retain their crown at the Bethpage Black Course in New York from September 26-28.

Luke Donald’s side will be made up of 12 players, with six guaranteeing their spot through the ranking system and the other six getting chosen by the team captain.

Ranking points are handed out to players based on their performances at PGA Tour events and the four majors.

McIlroy’s stunning 2025 has already seen him clinch the Players Championship as well as the Green Jacket at Augusta.

And he has all-but booked his spot at the Masters after picking up a whopping 2,863.75 points.

It puts McIlroy 1,873.20 clear at the top of the table.

Tyrrell Hatton is in second with 990.55 and Justin Rose’s runner-up spot at the Masters sees him in third with 870.04.

Rasmus Hojgaard, Shane Lowry and Ludvig Aberg complete the current top six.

But stars like Tommy Fleetwood, Thomas Detry and Matt Wallace are hot on their heels.

Viktor Hovland and Robert MacIntyre were part of the squad that won the Ryder Cup for Europe in 2023 and they sit 12th and 13th respectively.

John Rahm was also previously in the side and will seemingly have to settle for being one of Donald’s picks.

The Spaniard is now part of LIV Golf and he therefore languishes in 26th place due to him no longer playing in PGA Tour competitions.

Meanwhile, the current American top six is Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa, Bryson DeChambeau, Russell Henley and Justin Thomas.

Players have up until the end of the BMW Championship on August 17 to pick up ranking points for the Ryder Cup.

New footage shows Max Verstappen confronted by FIA boss

In a dramatic turn of events at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, Max Verstappen found himself at the center of a heated confrontation with FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem, as newly surfaced footage reveals a tense exchange that underscores the growing friction between drivers and the governing body. Verstappen, still reeling from a controversial penalty imposed during the race, opted to sidestep inquiries regarding his recent clash with Oscar Piastri, leaving fans and pundits buzzing with speculation about the implications of his silence. The incident, which occurred on the opening lap, saw Verstappen earn a penalty that many believe was mitigated by the FIA’s policy of leniency during the early stages of a race. The stewards confirmed that while Verstappen’s actions warranted a penalty, the decision to impose a lesser punishment was influenced by the circumstances surrounding the incident. This raises a pivotal question: was the penalty fair, or merely a reflection of Verstappen’s stature in the sport? Verstappen’s comments following the race hinted at a broader discontent with how the FIA manages its disciplinary measures. His assertion that “people can’t handle the full truth” when he shares his opinions adds another layer of complexity to an already contentious relationship between drivers and race officials. This confrontation not only highlights Verstappen’s frustrations but also signals a growing divide in the sport regarding accountability and transparency. As the season unfolds, the ramifications of this encounter are likely to reverberate through the paddock, prompting further scrutiny of the FIA’s decision-making processes. With tensions on the rise and the championship battle intensifying, fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see how this situation evolves and what it means for Verstappen’s campaign and the integrity of Formula 1 racing as a whole.

Canelo Aims for Redemption: The High-Stakes Rematch with Bivol on the Horizon!

Canelo Alvarez is poised for a dramatic return to the light heavyweight division as he sets his sights on a rematch with Dmitry Bivol, the only fighter on his radar at 175 pounds. Fresh off his recent fight with Terence Crawford, Canelo expressed a burning desire to erase the blemish of his second loss, a setback against Bivol that has haunted him since their initial clash. In a candid reflection, Canelo revealed that the rematch has always lingered in his thoughts. He admitted to entering that first bout in less than optimal condition, grappling with injuries that severely limited his performance. “I fought Bivol with only one hand,” he said, acknowledging that he was not at his best physically, a fact that has driven him to seek redemption. The Mexican champion emphasized that he has gained invaluable insights from his defeat, understanding now what adjustments he could make to succeed in a potential rematch. Critics have often dismissed Bivol as a mere stepping stone in Canelo’s illustrious career, but Alvarez vehemently countered that narrative. He insists that Bivol is a formidable opponent, deserving of respect for his talent and s𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁 inside the ring. The perception of Bivol has changed dramatically since their first encounter, as he has solidified his status in the boxing world, making a rematch all the more compelling. Canelo’s determination to reclaim his standing in the light heavyweight division is palpable. He is not just fighting for victory; he is fighting for vindication. As he prepares for what could be a defining moment in his career, fans and analysts alike are keenly awaiting his next move. The stage is set for an electrifying showdown, as Canelo Alvarez aims to settle the score with Dmitry Bivol and restore his legacy.
