After years of silence, the spirits are back—and they’re more vengeful than ever. MGM has officially released the first trailer for Poltergeist IV: The Shadows Return, a chilling continuation of the iconic horror franchise that haunted generations.

Directed by Osgood Perkins (The Blackcoat’s Daughter, Longlegs), the 2025 installment revives the cursed Freeling legacy in a terrifying modern setting, blending psychological horror with the classic paranormal chaos fans expect.

The trailer opens with eerie static, flickering televisions, and the whispering phrase that sent chills worldwide: “They’re here…” Set 40 years after the original events, the film follows Emma Freeling, the adult daughter of Carol Anne’s cousin, who returns to the family’s abandoned estate—only to find that something never left.

“This chapter is about unfinished business—familial, spiritual, and emotional,” said Perkins in a recent interview. “It’s a deeply personal ghost story set against the legacy of one of horror’s most enduring franchises.”

Starring Cailee Spaeny (Priscilla, Civil War) as Emma, alongside Jeremy Strong, and a surprise cameo teased in the trailer by a shadowy figure believed to be a returning original cast member, the film explores generational trauma, possession, and the sinister force known only as “The Shadowman.”
