Set nearly a decade after the events of Top Gun: Maverick (2022), this third and final chapter takes Maverick on his most dangerous mission yet — not just in the sky, but within himself.
Directed by Joseph Kosinski, who returns after the success of Maverick, the teaser trailer opens with a sweeping shot of a desert runway at dawn, followed by the unmistakable roar of F/A-18 Super Hornets cutting through the clouds. We see Maverick, now a decorated but weary instructor, pulled back into active duty for what is being described as a “covert international air operation.”
“This is a story about legacy, sacrifice, and the price of speed,” Kosinski shared at a recent trailer premiere event. “It’s about closing a chapter with honor.”
Liam Neeson joins the cast as Admiral Jonathan Reeve, a retired intelligence officer tasked with reactivating Maverick for a mission involving rogue fifth-generation stealth fighters and a mysterious threat over international airspace.
Key trailer highlights include:
-
High-G training sequences that push new recruits to the edge
-
Flashbacks of Iceman (Val Kilmer), paying homage to the late character’s influence
-
A dramatic moment where Maverick whispers, “If I don’t fly this, no one comes home.”
The final shot? Maverick saluting on the tarmac as a lone jet disappears into the blazing sunset—set to a haunting orchestral version of “Danger Zone.”
Top Gun 3: One Last Ride is scheduled for theatrical release on July 2, 2026, just in time for Independence Day weekend.
