Tiger Woods images provide health update after urgent Ryder Cup plea

Tiger Woods has not featured on the PGA Tour since last summer’s Open Championship due to his fitness problems, with his latest setback an Achilles injury earlier this year

Tiger Woods was spotted walking at Tequesta Country Club on Wednesday as his son Charlie competed at the Nicklaus Junior Championship.

Woods has not played competitive golf since missing the cut at last July’s Open Championship at Royal Troon thanks to a whole host of injury problems. The latest came earlier this year, which prevented him from making a comeback at Augusta National for the Masters in April.

The 15-time major champion sustained an Achilles injury during training away from the golf course, all but forcing him out of the rest of the 2025 PGA Tour season. Woods has kept a low profile since picking up the issue, opting to keep his life private, having announced a new relationship with Vanessa Trump.

On Wednesday, though, the 49-year-old was back out in public, walking alongside Charlie as he returned to completion.

The teenager put in another strong performance, finishing sixth of 122 players at the Tequesta event, continuing an impressive run of form.

Just last week, Charlie qualified for the U.S. Junior Amateur, having come through a playoff at the Eagle Trace Golf Club qualifier, where Woods once again watched on.

Elsewhere, the teenager secured his first AJGA title, having won the Team TaylorMade Invitational last month. While Charlie’s game is seemingly thriving, the same can not be said for his dad, whose extended period away from competition will no doubt be taking its toll.

The images at Tequesta were positive, but it is still expected that Woods has a long way to go before he is able to make a return to the PGA Tour.

Assessing the issue, golf physiotherapy specialist James Ashcroft told Mirror U.S. Sports: “For a right-handed golfer, a left Achilles injury is moderately serious in that it is a fair amount of time away and can take up to a full year to get strength back throughout that leg compared to pre-injury.

“However, most healthy players should be able to get back to swinging and practicing more fully in the 4-6 month range… Usual recovery for this type of injury would be five to eight months for a golfer and 8-12 months for a contact sport athlete.”

While he may not be in action, Woods still finds his name in conversation on the PGA Tour thanks to Keegan Bradley. Bradley will captain Team USA at the Ryder Cup this September, and could well become the first playing captain since Arnold Palmer in 1963.

Bradley only helped his case of playing in New York after securing a victory at the Travelers Championship. If he is to take one of the 12 spots, there have been calls for Tiger Woods to step in as captain to let Bradley concentrate on playing rather than balancing both roles.

It is expected that Bradley will instead lean on his vice captains, Brandt Snedeker and Jim Furyk in the event he does make the team as a player, with Woods heavily tipped to lead the United States on Irish soil in 2027.
