The skies are no longer safe. The future has never looked so broken. Universal Pictures has just unveiled the first official trailer for Oblivion 2 — the highly anticipated sequel to the 2013 sci-fi epic starring Tom Cruise. This time, Cruise returns as Jack Harper, but he’s not alone: Charlize Theron joins the cast in a pivotal role that could redefine Earth’s fate.
Set in the year 2170, decades after the events of the original film, Oblivion 2 explores a rebuilt Earth on the brink of collapse again—this time from within. Jack Harper, now living in isolation beyond the remnants of human civilization, is pulled back into action when a mysterious signal reveals a hidden colony of survivors—and a dark truth about the Tet’s legacy.
Charlize Theron plays Dr. Lira Voss, a brilliant ex-scientist from one of the surviving lunar bases, whose arrival on Earth sets off a chain of cataclysmic events. The trailer teases large-scale aerial dogfights, alien technology reawakening beneath the crust, and stunning visual landscapes—from crumbling skyscrapers swallowed by jungles to submerged cities reclaimed by the ocean.
“You thought the war was over,” Theron’s character warns Jack. “But what we buried… it was only sleeping.”
Directed by Joseph Kosinski, returning to helm the sequel, Oblivion 2 promises to blend intellectual sci-fi with thrilling action and emotional stakes. With a screenplay co-written by Christopher McQuarrie, the film continues Universal’s bold sci-fi slate and is expected to launch a new trilogy.
Produced by Legendary Pictures and Universal, Oblivion 2 will hit theaters worldwide on July 10, 2026.
