The shadows of Gotham have a new protector.
Warner Bros. and DC Studios have just dropped the first trailer for The Batgirl (2026), a bold new addition to the DC Universe starring Hailee Steinfeld as Barbara Gordon, the tech-savvy daughter of Commissioner Gordon who dons the cape and cowl to fight back against the chaos rising in Gotham.
Directed by Cathy Yan (Birds of Prey), this gritty yet stylish reboot introduces a younger, more grounded Batgirl in a city plagued by political corruption, rising gang violence, and the mysterious disappearance of Batman himself.
The trailer opens with a haunting skyline of Gotham drenched in rain, before cutting to Barbara suiting up in a sleek, armored suit with glowing blue lenses. Steinfeld’s voiceover sets the tone: “He protected this city in the dark. But someone has to fight for it in the light.”
We get glimpses of high-octane motorcycle chases, rooftop battles, and underground tech lairs. Key supporting cast includes Bryan Cranston as Commissioner James Gordon, Jodie Comer as Black Canary, and Giancarlo Esposito in an undisclosed villainous role.
The tone blends the street-level intensity of The Batman with youthful urgency, as Barbara juggles her double life as a college student and a vigilante. The trailer teases a wider DCU connection, with brief flashes of Gotham PD files marked “Wayne” and a silhouette that fans suspect may be Nightwing.
The Batgirl premieres worldwide on June 12, 2026, and will be released in theaters and on Max simultaneously.
