Wyndham Clark has opted to pull out of this week’s Wyndham Championship at Sedgefield Country Club, just two days after committing to the event.

Clark, who was recently banned from Oakmont after an outburst at last month’s U.S. Open, competed at the 3M Open last week, finishing in a tie for 12th. Partway through the event, the U.S. Ryder Cup star was confirmed in the field for the Wyndham Championship, in the build-up to the FedEx Cup playoffs.

Following a strong performance at TPC Twin Cities, though, Clark’s quick withdrawal was confirmed, with Trevor Cone coming in to take the 31-year-old’s place in the Wyndham field.

Clark’s tied-12th finish at the 3M came a week after he impressed at The Open Championship, where he finished in a tie for fourth at 11-under-par.

During his week at Royal Portrush, it was revealed that the American had been banned from playing golf at Oakmont after causing damage to the locker room following his performance at the U.S. Open.

Per Golf Digest, Oakmont bosses have called on Clark to make “full repayment for damages, a meaningful contribution to a charity of the Board’s choosing, and the successful completion of counseling and/or anger management sessions,” if he is to have his ban lifted.

“We’re trying to keep it private between Oakmont, myself, and the USGA. I’m just happy we have a pathway moving forward, and like you said, I’m hoping we can get past this and move on, and hope there’s no ill will towards me and Oakmont.

“Like you said, I’m just trying to get past it. I want the best for Oakmont, the USGA, and myself. Like I said, I’m very sorry for what I did and feel terrible, and hopefully, in a few months, we’re past this, and it’s something of the past.”

In the wake of the incident, Clark’s damage and the banning order issued earlier this month were made public on social media.

Keen to keep the dealings private, he added: “We were hoping it was going to be private. I’ll just leave it at that.”

Oakmont will host the U.S. Open once again in 2033, the final year of Clark’s current exemption as a past champion.

Of potentially making a return, he said: “I would hope so. It’s a fantastic course and place. But that’s up to them. I did something awful, and I’m really sorry for it.

“Hopefully, they have it in their heart to forgive me, and maybe in the future, I’ll be able to play there.”
