Jon Rahm snatches $18M from under nose of LIV Golf rival

Jon Rahm narrowly claimed his second consecutive LIV Golf title by shooting a stunning 60 Sunday in Indianapolis to earn the $18 million prize over rival Joaquin Niemann

For the second straight year, Spanish golfer Jon Rahm is the LIV Golf champion. He did with little panache in 2025, failing to win a single tournament all year while his rival Joaquim Niemann won five.

Rahm, 30, posted a season-best eleven-under on Sunday with a 60 at Chatham Hills in Indianapolis. It wasn’t enough to win the weekend, as he fell to Niemann’s Torque GC teammate Sebastian Munoz in a playoff.

It was a weekend full of headlines in LIV: Rahm captured the $18 million individual title, Torque GC captured the team win at the event, with the Team Championship taking place next week, while Munoz set a professional golf record by shooting a 59 with a double-dogey, and former Ryder Cup Champion Henrik Stenson suffered a shock relegation out of the competition.

Rahm wasn’t a total pushover in 2025: the Spanish golfer was a four-time runner-up and had eight top-10 finishes, including this weekend in Indianapolis.

He now adds a second LIV Golf championship to an already glistening resume that features the 2023 Masters title and the 2021 U.S. Open.

Niemann, who finished tied for fourth over the weekend at -17, spoke effusively of his longtime rival. “It was quite a show by Jon. I obviously played with him today, and I knew it was going to be a good battle,” he said.

“It was going to be a long day. I knew I needed to play well. I knew Jon was playing amazing golf lately. We all know how good a player he is, and yeah, he played amazingly. I feel like he didn’t miss many shots, made a lot of putts, left his ball close to the hole pretty much every time.”

Behind Munoz and Rahm at -22 was Dustin Johnson (-20), Niemann (-17), David Puig (-17), Branden Grace (-17_, and Carlos Ortiz (-17) at the score-friendly course. Nieman’s Torque GC finished at -64 overall, breaking the previous LIV record of -53.

Both Rahm and Niemann have been courteous towards each other all year. The Spaniard praised the Chilean golfer midweek when previewing this weekend’s action.

Seven wins in two years is spectacular,” Rahm said on Wednesday. “He’s a fantastic competitor, fantastic golfer, great person as well.”

“It’s a lot of fun to share the stage with him. He’s obviously been playing great golf, and even though I was able to get the best of him last year, he certainly made the job hard this year.”
