In a heartfelt tribute that resonates with love and compassion, Tony Carreira and Fernanda Antunes have launched a new social initiative to honor the memory of their late daughter, Sara Carreira. This poignant moment comes four years after the establishment of the Sara Carreira Association, dedicated to fulfilling Sara’s dreams of helping those in need. On what would have been her 26th birthday, October 21, the family took a significant step forward, unveiling a project focused on combating senior isolation.

The initiative, revealed by Fernanda Antunes in an exclusive interview with Nova Gente, aims to bridge the generational gap by connecting young volunteers with elderly individuals who require companionship. “Sara had a huge heart and an extraordinary sensitivity for helping those in need,” Fernanda expressed. “It was one of her greatest dreams. Now we will make it a reality, uniting our young scholarship recipients with the elderly.”

The first event took place at the Centro de Dia Amor in Chaneca da Caparica, with the support of the new project director, Maria João Venâncio. This initiative is a vital addition to the Association’s ongoing efforts, which have supported underprivileged families, young scholarship recipients, and animal protection causes since 2021.

Activities planned for the elderly include simple yet meaningful interactions such as enjoying a coffee, reading a book, accompanying them to medical appointments, or simply engaging in conversation. This project not only embodies the spirit of generosity that Sara Carreira championed during her life but also serves as a beacon of hope for those who feel isolated.

As the Carreira family embarks on this noble endeavor, they invite the community to join them in honoring Sara’s legacy by making a difference in the lives of the elderly. This heartfelt mission is a testament to the enduring impact of Sara’s life and the love that continues to inspire those who knew her.
