Manchester City reportedly tried to sign Barcelona youngster Lamine Yamal during the recent summer transfer window.
Manchester City tried to sign Lamine Yamal
Earlier this month, Fabrizio Romano revealed that the Manchester club had asked Barcelona for information on Alejandro Balde in terms of a potential transfer move prior to the summer window, which ultimately came to nothing.
Now though, it has been claimed that Balde wasn’t the only Barcelona player City had their eyes on over the summer.
City tried to sign Yamal in the summer
According to journalist David Sanchez (via Radio Marca), City did all they could to sign Yamal during the summer.
At the age of 16, the striker has made five senior appearances for the Spanish club, providing two assists in the process.
After seeing Yamal make his senior debut for Barcelona back in April, Xavi not only described the youngster as a “special” talent but also compared him to Lionel Messi in regards to his attacking quality in the final third of the pitch
The recent international break saw the teenager become the youngest player and goalscorer for the Spanish national team by finding the net in Spain’s recent 7-1 win over Georgia.
With all of that in mind, it’s easy to see why City apparently had the striker on their radar and wanted to secure his signature in the summer.
It’s also safe to say that Barcelona would be keen to keep hold of Yamal for as long as possible, especially if he can keep impressing in the first team.
Moving forward, it’ll be interesting to see what the future holds for the youngster and if he ends up making a move away from Barcelona or not.
