Pop sensation Meghan Trainor made a significant investment around the beginning of 2021 when she acquired a lavish mansion in Encino, Los Angeles, for a hefty $6.6M. The sprawling 1.1-acre estate was previously owned by entrepreneur Doug Jordan, who is also known as rapper TMG Fresh. While the mansion boasts eight bathrooms and six bedrooms, it’s the home studio that truly steals the spotlight.
TMG Fresh, the son of real estate investors Wayne Jordan and Quinn Delaney, set up a home studio in a separate two-story guesthouse on the property. From the photographs in the real estate listing, it’s evident that the studio has been meticulously designed with LED lights, a starry sky ceiling, and even a castle motif surrounding the control area. Although some reports suggest the studio may be located on the guesthouse’s second floor, the central area of the control room has an intriguing feature – what appears to be a former in-ground hot tub transformed into a giant terrarium beneath Lucite. This might imply that the studio is situated on the first floor, but regardless, it’s likely that some redecoration is on the horizon, acoustical treatment considerations notwithstanding.
As for the studio gear, it’s uncertain whether Trainor inherited it along with the house. Nevertheless, let’s take a closer look at what TMG Fresh had in his possession. Easily discernible from a distance are a pair of industry-standard Yamaha NS10 studio monitors with their iconic white cones, accompanied by Genelec 1238A SAM studio monitors seamlessly integrated into the castle towers. A distinctive blue Tube-Tech CL 1B Optical Tube Compressor is visible in a rack on the right. At the heart of the space is a Solid State Logic Matrix² δelta mixing console, as seen in one of Trainor’s music videos.
On the other side of the control room glass, you’ll find a more compact vocal booth and live room, thoughtfully treated for optimal acoustics. Here, the focal point is the coveted Sony C-800G Studio Tube Condenser Microphone, a status symbol in the world of rap.
While Meghan Trainor is sure to enjoy her new luxurious home, TMG Fresh is not scaling down his lifestyle. He already owns a $7.2M estate near Beverly Hills and reportedly recently purchased a $9 million mansion in Bel Air. The neighborhood has a rich history, once being the residence of another renowned rapper with “Fresh” in his name.
