Darwin Nunez has been named the ‘most unfortunate player in the world’ after having two goals ruled out

Fans have dubbed Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez the ‘most unlucky player in the world’ after he saw two goals ruled out for offside.

While his work rate and assertive playing style has won over Merseyside fans, he has been guilty of some horrendous errors in front of goal since his £85million arrival from Benfica. His most recent gaffe came against Luton Town, when his half volley from three-yards out flew over the bar instead of into the back of the net.

Against Brentford, he managed to find his shooting boots, contributing two goals against the Bees. Unfortunately for him, they were both disallowed.

In the first-half, Nunez scored a wonderful, close-range overhead kick to give Liverpool the lead. However, the Uruguayan was standing in an offside position when the ball came into him.

Not long later, he calmly slotted home in the penalty area to give Liverpool the lead again. However, as was the case with the first goal, he was marginally offside when he scored.

After watching Nunez wheel off in celebration before the referee’s whistle or VAR cut his happiness short, football fans came out in their droves to sympathise with the forward. “Darwin Nuñez is the unluckiest player. 2 goals and 1 assist,” said one fan, who remarked on his instinctive assist for Mohamed Salah’s first goal.

“Darwin has to be one of the most unlucky players,” a second fan tweeted. A fan of the South American stuck up for him by tweeting: “Darwin Nunez actually has so much potential to be one of the most perfect strikers in the world. His game is so complete.”

“Darwin is the most confusing, complex conundrums of a footballer I’ve ever seen and I’m here for it,” a rival fan said, before another one also wrote: “Just so Darwin. The most complex conundrums in modern football is Darwin Nunez”

Since he joined Liverpool in the summer of 2022, Nunez has contributed 22 goals and 10 assists in 59 appearances in all competitions.
