Rumors of a potential “Back to the Future” remake with Tom Holland have been circulating among fans for some time, especially after the popularity of a deepfake video that surfaced online a few years ago.
In February 2020, YouTuber EZRyderX47 posted a video featuring a scene from the original “Back to the Future” film, but with the faces of Tom Holland and Robert Downey Jr. superimposed over those of Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd, respectively. The chemistry between Holland and Downey Jr. in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) led many fans to clamor for a joint film with them as Doc Brown and Marty McFly.
Despite fans’ excitement, Tom Holland remained skeptical about the idea of a remake during the premiere of Disney and Pixar’s “Onward.” Although impressed by the deepfake video, Holland expressed his respect for the original film and his inability to surpass it, calling it “one of the only perfect movies ever made.”
Michael J. Fox, who portrayed Marty McFly, has also voiced his opinion on a potential fourth installment of “Back to the Future,” stating that he doubts any other filmmaker can find a more compelling way to tell that story.
With these statements and the stance of the original director, Robert Zemeckis, who has asserted that there will never be a fourth installment of the franchise, it seems that hopes for a continuation or remake of “Back to the Future” in 2024 or the near future are virtually nonexistent.
