When the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) film project kicked off nearly a decade ago, director Zack Snyder had meticulously outlined a plan to bring DC superheroes to the big screen. Following “Man of Steel,” he continued with “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” and ultimately brought together the two most iconic characters in “Justice League” to face off against Darkseid. “Justice League 2” was expected to be a film on par with Marvel Studios’ “Avengers: Endgame.”
However, things quickly took a turn when Zack Snyder had to step down from the project in early 2017, while “Justice League” part 1 was still in production. Warner Bros. brought in Joss Whedon to replace him, and with him, the original vision Snyder had for the Justice League was altered. Not only was the content of the film edited, but the future of the project’s second part also fell into oblivion. Even now, with the impending release of the Snyder Cut, the future of “Justice League 2” remains uncertain as Warner Bros. has shown little enthusiasm for the idea.
Nevertheless, regardless of whether “Justice League 2” sees the light of day, Zack Snyder had already conceived ideas for this film. Speaking to The New York Times, the director revealed some details about the setting and general storyline of the sequel. According to him, much of the film’s runtime would take place in the Knightmare timeline, with an intense battle erupting among various factions and different armies.
Despite the setbacks and uncertainties surrounding the future of “Justice League 2,” Snyder’s vision for the sequel promises to explore intriguing and intense narrative territories, potentially offering fans a deeper dive into the DC universe.
