Xander Schauffele likely had hundreds of text messages to read through after he won the PGA Championship.
But one name clearly stood out among the well-wishers.
Of course, we are referring to none other than Tiger Woods.
If Rory McIlroy is correct, Woods pressed ‘send’ milliseconds before Schauffele’s birdie putt dropped on the 72nd hole at Valhalla Golf Club.
According to other recipients of Woods’ texts, the 15-time major champ can offer some sage words, be absolutely brutal or downright hilarious.
“Now step on their necks,” Woods told Team USA in the group chat after they forged a huge lead at the 2021 Ryder Cup at Whistling Straits.
“See. It works,” he told Webb Simpson after watching the American win the 2018 Wyndham Championship wearing black and red.
So what about X-Man?
Schauffele, 30, revealed all on the latest episode of GOLF’s Subpar.
“He texted me, you know, and I think he is right—he’s been through it all himself,” Schauffele said.
“But he texted me something along the lines of, ‘You know, all those times you were close, I think that hardened you for this moment. And . . . I’m proud of you.
“It’s incredible. I couldn’t be more proud of you.’ That was an awesome text I got from T-Dub.”
Woods is right to say Schauffele has been close.
Before the PGA Championship, he had 12 top-10 finishes in the majors, including a runner-up performances at the 2018 Open and 2019 Masters.
Speaking of text messages, Schauffele recently revealed the group chat absolutely ripped Scottie Scheffler to pieces after he was arrested.
The moderator of the chat also did the most obvious thing by changing the group picture to a snap of Scheffler’s mugshot.
