Is Tiger Woods playing in the 2024 Travelers Championship? Availability and schedule explored

Tiger Woods earned a lifetime exemption to compete in signature events but will not be playing at the 2024 Travelers Championship. The final signature event of the PGA Tour is scheduled to start this Thursday, June 20, featuring a stellar field of the top-ranked players in the world.

However, Woods will not be participating. His last appearance was at the US Open, where he struggled through two rounds and failed to make the cut.

Tiger Woods has only competed in four tournaments in 2024, missing the cut twice and withdrawing from the Genesis Invitational. He made the cut only at the Masters 2024 in April, but after a strong start, he faltered in the final two rounds and finished at the bottom of the leaderboard.

The 48-year-old will likely return to compete at the final Major of the year, The Open Championship (also known as the British Open), next month. He is expected to participate in December at the PNC Championship, where he enjoys playing with his son and has not missed competing in recent years. It is likely he will continue this tradition in 2024 as well.

Meanwhile, the final signature event of the year, the Travelers Championship, will kick off with its inaugural round on Thursday, June 20. It will feature a stellar field of the top PGA Tour players, including Scottie Scheffler, Viktor Hovland, Xander Schauffele and Collin Morikawa.

Rory McIlroy was also slated to participate in the tournament but withdrew following his disappointing outing at the 2024 US Open. McIlroy narrowly missed the Major title, losing to LIV golfer Bryson DeChambeau by one stroke. He missed a short putt on the final hole of the Major, resulting in a runner-up finish.

Tiger Woods drops retirement clues post US Open

Following a tough outing at the 2024 US Open, Woods addressed the media in a press conference. During this conference, he dropped a major hint regarding retirement when asked if it was his last time playing at the US Open.

Responding to the reporter, Woods said:

“In order to win a golf tournament, you have to make the cut. I can’t win the tournament from where I’m at, so it certainly is frustrating. I thought I played well enough to be up there in contention. It just didn’t work out. As far as my last Open Championship or US Open Championship, I don’t know what that is. It may or may not be.” [01:50]

Tiger Woods has only competed in ten tournaments since his car accident in 2021, which left him with leg injuries. He later underwent several surgeries. He withdrew from the Genesis Invitational Open earlier this year due to illness.
