Floyd Mayweather Next Fight Decision Explained By DAZN Chief

Floyd Mayweather moved to 50-0 back in 2017 but still continues to compete in the ring to this day, and now his next outing has been explained by a DAZN chief.

Mayweather retired from professional boxing after defeating UFC star Conor McGregor in August 2017, in what was the professional boxing debut for McGregor after making the switch from mixed martial arts.

While Mayweather may have held up his gloves professionally, he has since competed in a number of exhibition bouts, against the likes of Logan Paul, Aaron Chalmers, and Deji.

One of the men that Mayweather previously had an exhibition with was John Gotti III, a former MMA fighter who made the switch to boxing and is now 2-0 as a professional.

They met in June 2023, but the bout was stopped and declared a no-contest, leading to members of both teams storming the ring and causing a mass brawl.

The two fighters will now meet again, competing in an exhibition rematch on August 24 at the Arena Ciudad de México. The event will be broadcast live on DAZN, and their SVP of North America, Jared Kass, has explained the decision behind airing the event.

“Floyd Mayweather is synonymous with boxing and when fans think of these massive fights, they know they will be broadcast on DAZN. With an unprecedented number of top-tier fights every year of DAZN, we are pleased to be adding this blockbuster rematch to the schedule and look forward to fans enjoying the card and all the behind-the-scenes on the platform.”

It will be hoped that this time around the exhibition doesn’t end in the same chaos that unfolded during the first contest.
