Tiger Woods and Justin Timberlake have been given the green light to go ahead with a St. Andrews project.
According to multiple reports, the two global superstars will team up to convert the town’s movie theater into a sports bar called T-Squared Social. The Fife Council has granted them planning permission for the project.
Woods and Timberlake opened a T-Squared Social in midtown Manhattan last September, but the proposed project in Scotland was met with more resistance. Last October a petition against the new sports bar got more than 10,000 signatures.
The real estate application came from Nexus Luxury Collection, which Woods and Timberlake are both shareholders in.
The New Picture House has been a St Andrews staple since 1930, but has been running at “under 10 percent occupancy,” according to documents. The proposed plan, which has been backed by the cinema’s current owers, will retain at least one of the movie screens and is expected to create 40-45 jobs.
Like the NYC T-Squared Social, this new location is envisioned as a luxury bar featuring golf simulators, duckpin bowling and darts. No timeline for development was given, but work must begin within three years under terms of the agreement.
The new sports bar will be located about a half mile from the Old Course, where Woods won the 2000 and 2005 Open Championships. Timberlake also has a connection to the historic track having played there on multiple occasions, including in the 2019 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.
