Phil Mickelson has passed on his Augusta secrets to a select few PGA Tour stars
Phil Mickelson, despite his controversial move to LIV Golf and the manner in which it was executed, continues to command respect among many of his fellow golfers.
The 53 year old is known for generously sharing advice with younger players on the PGA Tour, especially during The Masters, drawing from a wealth of experience that has seen him don the green jacket three times.
As the golfing world begins to turn its attention to Augusta National, a number of players have opened up on some of the secrets to Mickelson’s success.
The six-time major champion as compiled his insights about the 18 iconic holes into a notebook, granting a select few access to this valuable resource over the years.
In a survey conducted by GolfWeek, several players credited Mickelson with helping them prepare for the unique challenge of The Masters early in their careers.
Keegan Bradley revealed the key ingredient to Masters success for ‘Leftie’: “Phil Mickelson. He has this scrapbook where he writes down notes. He showed me that certain putts go the opposite direction and when the pin on 2 is on the back left, lay it up short right. That was really helpful.”

Matt Kuchar revealed the meticulous nature of Phil Mickelson’s preparation, noting his notebook even includes details on grass cutting schedules. “The differences in chipping and putting around the greens. He taught me to go out Wednesday because there’s areas that get cut differently on Tuesday than Wednesday and Wednesday from Thursday.
“Certain areas that you putt from and others you chip from and it was awesome to have Phil’s level of input.”
And Rickie Fowler simply said: “The amount of knowledge [Mickelson] has around there is crazy. He’s got it all written down in a notebook.”

Despite a dip in form since joining LIV Golf in 2022, Mickelson approaches the upcoming Masters at Augusta National with optimism, buoyed by his past victories in 2004, 2006, and 2010. Last year, he dazzled fans with a masterful final round that vaulted him into second place.
Mickelson is set to compete at The Masters with a fresh face carrying his clubs after his brother Tim’s unexpected retirement from caddying. Having been a constant presence since 2016, Tim’s departure opens the door for Jon Yarbrough, a seasoned caddie who previously worked with Scott Stallings, to step in starting at LIV Golf Miami this weekend.
Reflecting on their time together, Mickelson expressed heartfelt gratitude: “I’ve had some great accomplishments in my career and getting to share them with my brother Tim has been beyond special. I’m very lucky to have had him on the bag for me the past eight years and as my brother for life.
“While Tim is retiring from caddying, I’ll always cherish the many great moments we’ve shared on the course and I look forward to many more special moments off the course too.”
