There’s an outbreak in the outback in the upcoming 𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁er kangaroo creature feature The Red starring Michael Biehn, and the official trailer has been unleashed this week.
The Red is a feature expansion of Ryan Coonan’s 2014 smash festival short film Water𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧e, and it’s directed by Coonan and written by Coonan and Richard Barcaricchio.
The Red hits cinemas in Australia October 31. Stay tuned for a U.S. release date.
The upcoming creature feature follows the story of young police officer Maddy, who is determined to live up to her deceased father’s legacy. Her courage is put to the test when locals are found brutally ripped to shreds by Rippy the Zombie Kangaroo.
As the undead beast leaves a trail of carnage, Maddy, with the help of her eccentric uncle Schmitty and resilient aunt Donna, must embark on a high-stakes battle to save the town.
Tess Haubrich, Aaron Pederson and Angie Milliken also star.
“The Red is a horror comedy film influenced by classic creature features such as The Thing, An American Werewolf in London, Jaws and Razorback,” says director Ryan Coonan.
Producer Jessica Butland teases, “This film is a wild ride from start to finish, delivering everything creature feature fans would expect from such an outrageous concept! It also delivers for mainstream audiences with its throw back to classic Aussie slang and pop-culture.”
