Tiger Woods is not competing in the 2024 FedEx St. Jude Championship as he failed to meet the eligibility criteria for the tournament. The FedEx Cup playoffs are designed for players who finish in the top 70 of the FedEx Cup standings at the end of the regular season PGA Tour events. After last week’s Wyndham Championship, the top 70 players in the FedEx Cup standings were unveiled, who will compete in the playoffs.
Tiger Woods did not make it into the top 70 as he only played in a handful of events this season. The American golfer, who has been struggling with his game since his severe car accident in 2022, has only competed in five tournaments this season, missing the cut in three of them. He participated in all four Majors and The Genesis Invitational. However, he was forced to withdraw from The Genesis Invitational during the second round due to illness.
Woods failed to make the cut in three of the four Majors and finished 60th at the Masters. As a result, he did not make it into the top 70 of the FedEx Cup standings and will miss the playoffs.
Meanwhile, the top 70 players will tee off this week, starting Thursday, August 15. The FedEx Cup playoffs consist of three events: the St. Jude Championship, the BMW Championship, and the Tour Championship.
The top 70 players compete in the St. Jude Championship, with the top 50 advancing to the BMW Championship, and finally, the top 30 earning a spot in the Tour Championship.
Although Tiger Woods is not playing in the FedEx St. Jude Championship this week, he has participated in the tournament in the past and was the runner-up in 2013. In 2024, he will also miss the BMW Championship and the Tour Championship.
Notably, while Woods never won the St. Jude Championship in his career, he did claim victories in both the BMW Championship (2007 and 2009) and the Tour Championship (1999, 2007, and 2018).
When will Tiger Woods play next?
Tiger Woods last competed at The Open Championship, the final Major of the year, but failed to make the cut. During a press conference after the second round, he revealed that he would not be returning to competition until the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas.
The event is scheduled to take place from December 5 to 8 in Albany. Following that, fans can expect to see Woods teeing up alongside his son, Charlie Woods, at the PNC Championship.
Speaking about his next outing during a press conference at The Open Championship in July, Woods said (via ASAP Sports):
“I’m going to just keep getting physically better and keep working on it. Hopefully just come back for our — what is it, our fifth major, the Father/Son, so looking forward to it.”
The 2024 PNC Championship is slated to take place from December 20 to 22 at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Course.
