Sidney Crosby, captain of the Pittsburgh Penguins, talked about his future on the 32 Thoughts podcast with Elliotte Friedman and Kyle Bukauskas on September 10. Crosby hinted that he might consider retiring as he gets older. He’s more open to playing into his 40s but finds it hard to predict exactly when he’ll stop.

“I mean, I think that I just, I don’t want to look too far ahead,” Crosby said. “You know, I think when you talk to guys who start to get later on their careers, you know, there’s a lot of things that you’re balancing, and you go off, you know, your body and how you feel mentally and things like that.” [0.17]

“So to predict that. Now it’s impossible, but I would say I’m probably a little more open than I was before, to to get into that point if, if I feel good, so it’s just, it’s hard to say and predict that,” he added. [0.33]

Crosby has had a standout career since being drafted first overall by the Penguins in 2005. He’s won three Stanley Cups, scored over 500 goals, and reached 1,500 points. Crosby is also known for his 1,000 assists with a single NHL team, a rare achievement.

While Sidney Crosby is open to continuing if he feels good, he is not sure what lies ahead.

Previously Sidney Crosby expressed confidence about signing a contract with the Penguins

Sidney Crosby is set to start his 20th NHL season with the team next October. Crosby is in discussions about a new contract but has not yet signed one.

At the NHL North American Player Media Tour on September 9, Crosby talked about his future and his new contract.

“I think something will get done,” Crosby said (per NHL.com). “It’s just a matter of, at my age, just trying to figure out, I think, how many years? It’s hard to project at this point. It’s kind of a year-to-year thing.”

Pat Brisson handles Crosby’s contract as his agent. On Monday, he confirmed to NHL.com that the negotiations between the two sides are nearly finalized.

“As Sidney indicated today during the NHL media tour, we should be able to finalize the details of an extension with the Penguins shortly,”

Sidney Crosby is finishing a 12-year, $104.4 million contract and remains optimistic about staying with the Penguins. Last season he scored 42 goals and 94 points.
