As the Singapore Grand Prix approaches, a groundbreaking decision by the FIA to introduce a fourth DRS (Drag Reduction System) zone at the Marina Bay Circuit has sparked mixed reactions among the drivers, most notably Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton. The change, aimed at increasing overtaking opportunities, has divided opinions ahead of the race.

Reigning world champion Max Verstappen welcomed the addition of the fourth DRS zone, expressing optimism about how it could enhance the race’s dynamics. “More DRS means more chances for overtaking, which is always a positive for the fans and the competition,” Verstappen stated. “Singapore can be a tough track for overtakes, so this should make things more exciting.”

On the other hand, Lewis Hamilton voiced concerns about the implications of the change, particularly regarding safety. “I’m not sure if adding another DRS zone is the right solution. The Marina Bay Circuit is already quite challenging, and sometimes more DRS can create more risks than rewards,” Hamilton commented. “It will be interesting to see how it plays out, but safety should always come first.”

This unprecedented move by the FIA marks the first time the Singapore GP will feature four DRS zones, making it only the second venue on the calendar, after Melbourne’s Albert Park, to offer this many. The new DRS zone will be active between Turns 14 and 16, adding to existing zones to promote more aggressive racing on the tight, technical street circuit.
