When Tiger Woods revealed the only shot he wore a glove for – “I used to use gloves all the time”

Tiger Woods opened up about his game earlier this year in an interview for TaylorMade. The American golfer collaborated with Collin Morikawa for his exclusive “Tiger Talks” for TaylorMade. The two played a few shots together and discussed the game in June.

While playing with Morikawa, Woods shared that he only uses a glove while taking a shot in the bunkers. The 15-time Major winner added he used to wear gloves all the time but later changed it and now only uses them while playing out of a bunker.

TaylorMade this week uploaded a short clip of Tiger Woods talking about his gloves on its X (formerly Twitter) account. In the video, Woods said,

“I used to use the gloves all the time. Then I realized that I had more touch and more feel without a glove, but out of the bunker, because I’m hitting so much harder, it was twisting in my hand. So, I put on a glove for traction out of a bunker shot.”When I hit a full swing flop shot or I have to flight a lot of resistance, like hitting it out of high rye grass or out of the sand, hitting behind it, it’s going to want to twist in my hand, and the glove gives me an added sense of security that it won’t twist.”

Notably, Tiger Woods has rarely competed in official tournaments after his brutal car accident in 2021. This year, he has only played in five tournaments and withdrew from the Genesis Invitational due to health issues.

Woods has struggled with his game this season. He has only made one cut this year but had a rough outing in that tournament. He made the cut at the Masters but finished the Major in 60th place.

He also played at the PGA Championship, the US Open, and The Open Championship but missed the cut in all of them.

What is next for Tiger Woods?Tiger Woods last played at The Open Championship and has not participated in any official events since. He will next return to compete at the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas towards the end of November. Moreover, in December, he plans to play in the popular Father/Son Challenge in Florida just prior to Christmas.

Tiger Woods opened up about his next outing in a press conference at The Open Championship in July 2024. He said (via ASAP Sports),

“I’m not going to play until then [in the Bahamas]. I’m going to just keep getting physically better and keep working on it. Hopefully just come back for our — what is it, our fifth major, the Father/Son, so looking forward to it.”Notably, Woods will return to compete towards the end of the year, after which fans can watch him play at the TGL series events. The five-time Masters winner has collaborated with his best friend Rory McIlroy to start a new virtual golf series, TGL, which is slated to start in January 2025.

Woods will be playing in the TGL series for the Jupiter Links Golf Club. The series will have 15 tournaments, taking place on Monday and Tuesday nights.
