The best Formula 1 drivers are among the highest-paid athletes across all of sport, and Max Verstappen is no exception, but what the net worth of the Red Bull driver?

The Dutchman is the reigning back-to-back world champion and his bumper new Red Bull contract, announced in March 2022, reflects that.

Verstappen began his F1 career in 2015 as a 17-year-old at Toro Rosso (now AlphaTauri), making him the youngest driver in the sport’s history.

He quickly made a name for himself and earned a call-up to the parent team after just four races of the 2016 season to replace the struggling Daniil Kvyat.

Amazingly, he would win his first race in Red Bull colours, sealing victory at the 2016 Spanish Grand Prix from fourth on the grid and holding his nerve to cross the line less than a second ahead of Kimi Raikkonen to become F1’s youngest race winner.

His career has gone from strength to strength since and now Verstappen is regarded as one of the most well-rounded drivers ever to compete in F1.

Given his status as world champion, clinching a controversial title decider in 2021 on the last lap of the final race in Abu Dhabi, Verstappen was offered a contract extension that would keep him at Red Bull until the end of 2028 and see him earn €35 million a year before bonuses and endorsements.

In terms of Formula 1 2022 driver salaries, that put him on par with Lewis Hamilton, with the Dutchman ranking 26th in the Forbes list of highest-paid athletes of 2022.

Verstappen earned a whopping €45m when all was said and done in 2022 as he clinched a dominant second world title and the Dutchman made it a hat-trick in 2023 despite Red Bull‘s wind tunnel penalty as a result of breaching the 2021 cost cap.

As such, he is amassing wealth at a fair rate and could well rank among the world’s richest sportspeople by the time he decides to hang up his helmet. At the moment, his net worth is understood to stand at around €190m.

How much money does Max Verstappen earn?

Verstappen‘s new contract, which he signed in March 2022, is worth close to £40million per year and with it running until 2028, he would earn £240million in that time.

That only comes from the base salary too so having already netted one world title since the ink dried and many more wins t go with it, he is likely to have bonus incentives to go with it.
