SOS! Zombies are back! The Rage virus has return! Alert, alert. Sony Pictures has revealed a surprised secret teaser for the upcoming 28 Years Later horror sequel – arriving in theaters June 2025 next summer. It’s once again being directed by Danny Boyle, who directed the original 28 Days Later (from 2002), a horror classic featuring fast zombies that still remains a favorite amongst zombie fans. Its sequel 28 Weeks Later (from 2007) was directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo and was only exec produced by Boyle at the time. This next one also features Alex Garland returning to co-write the screenplay with Boyle. And I’m guessing it’s going to be an angry sequel because the tagline is “time didn’t heal anything.” Oh damn. It was shot back-to-back with its sequel 28 Years Later Part II: The Bone Temple, directed by Nia DaCosta, which doesn’t have a release date yet. This teaser is actually just setting up the first trailer – which will land on Tuesday coming up. The Morse code beeping in this teaser video below simply states “Tuesday” over & over. There’s only one glimpse of an island in the teaser – is that where this one will be taking place? Bring on the hungry zombies.

Here’s the SOS message teaser (+ poster) for Danny Boyle’s sequel 28 Years Later, from YouTube:

🆘 “Time didn’t heal anything.” Sometime after the events of 28 Weeks Later, the Rage Virus has returned, and a group of survivors must survive in a world ravaged by hordes of the infected. Shot on an iPhone 15 Pro Max with the aide of numerous specialised attachments. Cillian Murphy returns as Jim, with Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Comer, Jack O’Connell, Erin Kellyman, and Ralph Fiennes. 28 Years Later is once again directed by acclaimed, Oscar-winning British filmmaker Danny Boyle, director of the original 28 Days Later (2002) fast zombie horror, along with the films Trainspotting, The Beach, Millions, Sunshine, Slumdog Millionaire, 127 Hours, Frankenstein, Trance, Steve Jobs, Yesterday, and the “Pistol” series most recently. The screenplay is again written by Danny Boyle and Alex Garland. Produced by Bernard Bellew, Andrew Macdonald, Peter Rice, Danny Boyle and Alex Garland. Sony Pictures will debut 28 Years Later in theaters worldwide starting on June 20th, 2025 next summer. Anyone excited to see more of this sequel?
